December 2011 Council Update

The December council meeting was held on December 19th. Both the outgoing and incoming council members were present. Old business was concluded and then the proverbial torch was passed to incoming council. Below you will find a summary of the items discussed and the actions taken. This is not the official minutes of the meeting, but just an update to keep the membership informed. You should expect to receive this type of update after each council meeting.

Finance – The November finances were discussed. Some unexpected property expenses came up in November (boiler/HVAC repair & water heater repair), but we are still on track to conclude 2011 in the black! A year-end financial report will be sent to the membership after the January Council meeting.

Property – The 5% chance that the less expensive elevator repair possibility would not work ended up being the case. The repair has been stalled, as a part is on order from Italy. The cost for repairing the elevator will be $17,000. Corinne Kintz is continuing the fundraising effort.

The outgoing council members, Kay Shelsta, Judy Hagaman and Mary Bobb were thanked. Jane’s three years of service as the Messiah Council President was recognized. The incoming council was welcomed.

New business – Due to family demands, George Beavers Jr., regretfully resigned from his post as Co-President.  Paulette will assume the role as the sole president of the council.

Financial Gift- An anonymous donation was made to the church to pay for an accountant to manage the book keeping responsibilities for 2012. Cathy Butz will work closely with Michelle Buffaloe, a trained accountant, to manage the finances of the congregation. Michelle is a parent of MLA and has volunteered, since Mary’s accident last March, in the church office. She is familiar with the finances and financial procedures of the church. The council has accepted this gift.
